It is of course every Southern Belle's plight to learn how to bake a genuine pecan pie. (Other Belles say 'pee-can', I say 'pee-con'...my mom is from the north, and she learned me how to speak right. :-P)
Yesterday was my passage into becoming a sophisticated Southern Belle. I was finally going to bake my first pecan pie. *Angelic Voices*
Mom and Dad were at a meeting so she text-messaged me what to do. I combined all of the ingredients into a bowl and then discovered that we didn't have any milk. Of course all of the vehicles were gone, so I had to wait for someone to get home. Finally when my parental units returned home, I went out and bought some milk. Upon returning home I added milk to the ingredients then I doubled the recipe so I could make a pie for us to eat. (Since one was going to my uncle today.)
However, the mixture looked a bit yellowish to me so I went and asked mom about it. She said that it was normal that the Egg Yolks caused that and not to be worried. So I put the filling in the pie crust and put two pies in the oven!
I watched two episodes of "The Office" marathon with mom and checked on my pies. They were done and they weren't burnt at all! Nice golden brown! YES! I am an official Southern Belle now! *Woot Woot*
I cut into the pie so I could taste the sweetness of victory, and the inside of the pie was lemon meringue yellow!!! *Oh Ashley, Rhett Butler, anyone, save me!!*
Now, I don't know nothin' 'bout
*Sigh* At least it's really not my fault that I am not a Southern Belle...
*Part Two: Tomorrow is another day!*
Two new pecan pies are in the oven; and yes, they do have brown sugar this time! Now, if only I can manage to not burn them I may be in the running for Miss Pecan Pie! ;)Current Mood:
*swoon*
