For those of you who don't already know, there has been a strike scheduled for Friday, March 21st, 2008, during which we hope to have many members of LiveJournal provide LJ with absolutely no content for twenty-four hours.

This means no posting and no commenting. If you post elsewhere and have it set up to be posted through a feed on LiveJournal, don't do it. Stay away from LiveJournal for twenty-four hours. That can't be too hard, can it?

If anyone is like me where you are very active on LiveJournal and will find it hard to stay away for an entire day, It's "Good Friday" and participate in a worthwhile cause. This is to show the people running LiveJournal that we're watching the changes they are making, that we're paying attention, that we're discontent, and that we want to be heard and taken in to consideration.

I know that you think "So what if they took of basic accounts?". I thought so too until I researched it and discovered
1) They took away basic accounts without any notification or consulting their Advisory board. (Those on that committee were the founders of LJ.)
2) The issue I posted about yesterday. If you haven't read THIS outside post please do so! It's very eye opening in the way they are using Beacon to monitor your computer use.
3) The Censorship is the one which I am "iffy" about. However to ban fanfiction, faeries, depression and other stupid things is dumb. Also, since they are stationed in the US what happened to freedom of speech? I may not agree with some of the popular interests listed but you know if we limit that freedom then when they limit other freedoms I have no right to say anything.

Yes, it's their site and it is a good business decision but at least inform us when changes are going to be made, consult your advisory board, and don't take our information without our permission. This is why I am participating in the strike and why I am spreading the word.

If you find that you care about LiveJournal or care about the people you interact with on LiveJournal or simply want it to remain a place where you can entertain yourself without constant censorship and money-hungry practices being thrown in without the consideration of those who use the service, act now. If you don't wish to spread the word, that is fine, but please: refrain from using LiveJournal on Friday, March 21st. Do something else for a change. It's for a good cause.
